Welcome to Secret Letters, a paid subscriber perk of Letters from the Homestead. These monthly letters are exactly what you think: secret dispatches that feel a little too vulnerable to put in a free newsletter.
Thank you, as always, for reading and being a supporter of my work.
An interesting calendar date.
Today would’ve been my thirteenth wedding anniversary. Never sure how I should feel on this day. There is no should, of course, but I will tell you that I do feel relief. There is always relief.
There is also a swatch of emptiness. There’s the urge to fill it by going shopping (maybe for flowers?). I know that’s not the solution. The best gift I can give myself today is self-control and quiet.
The weather is cool—the opposite of that blazing hot day in 2010. Never get married outdoors in a Georgia summer. Maybe never get married period?
