Moving my little monthly newsletter to Substack...
In which I undergo The Change (a newsletter platform change, that is).
Well, hello, friends.
I’m coming up on the one-year anniversary of my newsletter, Letters from the Homestead, and it’s time for a little upgrade. After a year of publishing through Squarespace’s e-mail campaigns, I’m streamlining a bit with a fancy new platform.
Greetings, Substack. Lovely to meet you. May you not overwhelm my subscribers’ spam folders (which seems to be the chief destination of my old platform).
With Substack, I also have the option to add paid subscriber tiers for some other offerings I have (i.e., my college diary sharing idea that I’ve written about in the newsletter before). Like most working artists, I’m trying to figure out the best ways to create meaningful work that people would be willing to support. This is a hard line to walk because it’s difficult to ask for support for something you’d very likely do for free, but I want to gently take some steps in a direction that frees me up to spend more time on the writing I love most.
Don’t worry, though, this monthly newsletter right here will always be free. I’m absolutely committed to that. It’s just the extras that include a paid subscriber tier now. When the August 2021 edition hits your inboxes (on the evening of August 30), you’ll see options about how to opt in for these sorts of extras.
New to my writing? Here is the skinny on Letters from the Homestead:
Emily Dickinson called her Amherst home “The Homestead.” I lovingly call my apartment in St. Louis the same thing (although I definitely get out more than Dickinson). This long-form newsletter is my attempt to work through what it feels like to put down roots as a writer-actor artist in my own Homestead. In it, I’m honest about what’s saving my life right now, what’s hard, and what I’m pouring my energy into.
If you are already a subscriber through my old platform, don’t worry—I’ve already added you. But if you’re new, subscribe below!
In the meantime, tell your friends!
